TUSCANY CALLING: THE BEST HOTEL DEALS IN FLORENCE
A trip to Florence (or Firenze in Italian) has for a long time been on the agenda of any tourist worth his or her name, and Italy’s premier tourist destination continues to draw hordes of visitors every year, as its charm seems to grow with time. And one reason for Florence’s thriving tourism industry is that it offers accommodation to suit every budget and satisfy even the most discerning traveller.
Before we lead you to our list of handpicked hotels in Florence, however, we have to say that as far as Florence is concerned, ‘budget hotel’ does not always stand for a shabby, rundown place where spending the night seems impossible. In fact, some of Florence’s best hotels are those that are not obscenely expensive, and yet offer you every home comfort you can think of. So whether you are a business traveller or a pleasure tripper, Florence will offer you a hotel deal that will not only make your trip a delight, but make you want to come back for more.
Plenty of Florence hotels will give you an impressive discount if you reserve online. As a general rule, the hotels closer to the railway station are cheaper, though we can also offer you some mouth-watering bargains for hotels close to Florence’s historic city centre, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982. Then there are some business hotels that offer special weekend rates, or ‘off-season’ discounts. In this connection, the best time to visit Florence is from May to October, so you can look around for a discount at other times of the year, as well during some days in July and August.
Of course, staying at a hotel near Florence's historic centre ranks near the top on most travellers’ wish lists, and that is as good an idea as any, because staying in the neighbourhoods of Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo and Palazzo Vecchio means that you are a stone’s throw of most of the city’s major tourist attractions as well as its exciting shopping districts.
As elsewhere in Italy, hotels in Florence are rated from one to five stars. Like we said earlier, budget hotels (usually one-three stars) may sometimes take you by surprise with their range of services. Of course, if you are interested in luxury, you need to go for the four- and five-star options.
Most hotels in Florence offer online reservation facilities (you may have to provide credit card details), so you can confirm your reservation by fax or e-mail. Before you finalise your booking, we suggest you find out whether the price you are paying is inclusive of taxes, and what it entitles you to (free breakfast, airport transfer etc.)
